It was thee worst Mexican I've ever had in my 44 years. I had eaten at the N. Myrtle location some yrs. ago & had a decent experience. Salsa out of ajar. Beans-from a can. Chips from a bag- it seemed. Dirty & dusty too. Grilled tacos that had no grill marks- so that the corn tortilla's were flaccid & soggy. A serious disappointment when you are craving those favors. Taco Bell would have been better.

I have to guess that the first reviewer works there because their experience was VERY different from mine. The restaurant's appearance is badly dated and it is dirty (dead flys and crumbs in the window next to me). Ceiling tiles were greasy and a few were hanging out of their frames. I don't mind a place looking a bit dumpy if the food is spot on but this place just goes from bad to worse when the food is served. Bland, bland, bland! Everything tasted like they opened a can, warmed it and plopped it on the plate. The chips they served before dinner tasted of OLD fryer grease. Do yourself a favor and don't waste the calories on this place!

They kinda tried, but missed. It's not for large parties. We were told 30-minute wait for 14 people, and 1 hour and 20 minutes later, they were able to put tables together for the 9 of us that were left. The service was slow and not quite attentive enough -- I sensed they were understaffed. But they tried, kinda. The "guacamole salad"s that come as sides had no guacamole in it -- just lettuce and tomato with sour cream, but at least when we asked for guac they brought us a bowl to add to the sides. A couple of the orders were messed up -- beef tacos with just cheese (for the kids) came as chicken tacos with just lettuce (really?) and the platter ordered with no rice and just beans came with just rice and no beans, but we were too exhausted by that point to say anything. One dish was the wrong one so it had to be made and that one person had to wait while everyone else dug in. They also didn't bring the flour tortillas that went with the fajitas and another dish, we had to ask for them, and then were worried the food would be cold by the time they got there. The whole bad experience and this review wouldn't have happened if they could have just been accurate about the wait time up-front and we would have known to go somewhere else. They had one manager(?) that tried to help things early in the ordeal -- some complimentary cheese dip -- but there seemed to be only so much he could do with a short and inexperienced staff. Who knows, maybe they don't want families on vacation as their clientele?

I love walking into a restaurant, and feeling like you are part of the gang there. Maybe the waitstaff has some down time, or maybe they are just genuinely nice people. Well this was my experience here. I walked my butt in, sat down, ordered a coronarita. I look at the menu, and for the first time in my life, this Mexican food restaurant's menu was NOT vegetarian friendly! How does that happen? For the next twenty minutes, the bartender helped me decide what I could or could not eat, and then what I felt I was in the mood for. I settled with the chimichangas, which looked absolutely horrid in the menu picture (it was a special), so based on pictures alone I would never have gotten it, but the cook came out and suggested it to me. It was delicious. Very clean, with a traditional mexican food restaurant décor, I really loved this place and would definitely go back.

No trip to the Inlet incomplete until we hit up El Cerro for Happy Hour! We've been coming here for a few years, and this location seems much better than others. The drinks were great, but being designated driver so I couldn't really take full advantage of happy hour; I would like to see a Happy Hour Beer special though.. The food was very tasty, and they will modify menu items to your liking, provided they have the ingredients on hand. They serve it on heated plates, so your food stays hot the full meal. I went with the Carnitas Chimichanga, and it was excellent. Everyone in my group was very pleased with their entrees . Good food, good service, nice facilities..

the margarita is BIG, and that's a good thing. Is it the best margarita? It'll pass but not sure if I would say the best and if I had to guess I would probably pin it on the mix, probably out of a box/bag. Why do I think so? That crazy color is usually not arrived at naturally. But like I said, it is BIG and that is good. The only thing I had to eat here was the nachos and queso and they were OK. Surprised at what I spent on just that.

Big F grade in service a B in food ! Placed an order to go late this afternoon, and went to pic order up. Sat at bar waited 10 minutes at empty bar to be served, told waiter/bartender waiting on order, he said no problem. Never came back to ask if I wanted another beverage or tell me my order was ready. Finally went to counter and it was just sitting there. I would understand if the place was busy but it wasn't . The waiter with no personality all, took my payment he really didn't give a craps at all that no one never told us our food was ready. Too bad service stinks there because the food is good.

We've been eating at one location or another for over 20 years and we have never been disappointed. The prices are good, the portions are often oversized, the staff has always been friendly. El Cerro Grande is always on our list of restaurants to visit when we're in the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
